2nd Tai Chi in the park

This years Tai Chi in the Park event showed many areas of improved organization building on the success of the first event in 2006 thanks to some hard work by Faye, Tary and various members of the association. Naturally the one thing which no one could control was the weather. Actually the weather on the day wasn't too bad – just a little light drizzle while tents and banners were being erected but which stopped as soon as the actual event started.

The rain of the preceding days and the unpromising start to the day resulted in the park being quiet with very little “passing trade” compared to the beautiful day the previous year. On the other hand the non members who did attend were there because of a real interest which had persuaded them to turn up on what could have been a wet and miserable Sunday morning.

Following an introductory talk by Faye there was a performance of the 24 posture form. Those who had turned up to find out what Tai Chi is about then got a chance to get a little practical experience with workshops covering Chi Kung exercises, the eight step form, children's Wushu and the Eight Treasures. Then on to performances of the fan and sword forms by those who knew them and the children's Wushu team put on two impressive demonstrations to show what was available for the younger martial artist.

The final item was another performance of the 24 posture routine. This time, however, everyone was asked to take part and those who did not know the form copied the movements of the instructors. Our thanks go to Equinox who sponsored the event and attended on the day with a selection of their products and to Julianne from the Wednesfield Community Center who brought her sound system.
